What affects the price
- Staircase shape. Curved and multi-landing stairs need a custom rail and cost several times more than straight stairs.
- Power source. Battery models keep working in a power outage; hardwired models may need electrical work.
- Indoor or outdoor. Outdoor lifts need weatherproof parts and cost more.
- Seat features. Power swivel seats, folding rails and footrests add to the price.
How to get an accurate quote
- Get at least three quotes. Prices for the same job often vary a lot between contractors.
- Compare the same scope. Make sure each quote covers the same materials, removal, permits and cleanup.
- Check license and insurance. Ask for proof of insurance and look up the contractor's license with your state.
- Get it in writing. A written estimate should list the work, the price, the payment schedule and the warranty.
