What affects the price
- Size of the room. A half bath and a primary suite are different projects. More square footage means more tile, fixtures and labor.
- Labor. Labor is often 40% to 65% of the total, and more when plumbing has to move.
- Finishes. Tile, vanities and fixtures range from budget to luxury and can swing the price by thousands.
- Your location. Contractors in large metro areas usually charge more than in rural areas.
How to get an accurate quote
- Get at least three quotes. Prices for the same job often vary a lot between contractors.
- Compare the same scope. Make sure each quote covers the same materials, removal, permits and cleanup.
- Check license and insurance. Ask for proof of insurance and look up the contractor's license with your state.
- Get it in writing. A written estimate should list the work, the price, the payment schedule and the warranty.
