What affects the price
- Cabinets. Stock, semi-custom or custom cabinets make the biggest difference to price.
- Countertops. Laminate is the most affordable; quartz, granite and marble cost more.
- Kitchen size. Larger kitchens need more cabinets, counters and flooring.
- Layout changes. Moving plumbing, gas or walls adds trades, permits and time.
How to get an accurate quote
- Get at least three quotes. Prices for the same job often vary a lot between contractors.
- Compare the same scope. Make sure each quote covers the same materials, removal, permits and cleanup.
- Check license and insurance. Ask for proof of insurance and look up the contractor's license with your state.
- Get it in writing. A written estimate should list the work, the price, the payment schedule and the warranty.
